Your Sin Will Fine You Out
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Philippians 2:4
When Israel was entering the Promised Land, the two tribes of Reuben and Gad saw that the already-conquered territory on the east side of the Jordan was good for their herds and flocks. Thinking only of themselves--of their own needs and the convenience of settling the land they already stood on--rather than being concerned about Israel's inheritance as a whole, they approached Moses with a request: "Let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan" (Numbers 32:5).
Moses was an old man, but his eyes blazed, his jaw set, anger came to his face. Moses said, "Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? . . . But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:6, 23). Over the years, his words proved to be true.
That verse is God's message to any of His people who sit down in apathy and lethargy while their brothers and sisters are in need, when others are dying, and still others are spiritually lost. We can be sure that our sin will find us out.
