A Heart Transplant

 1 Samuel 10:9

"And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day."

I worked with a person who was told by his doctors he needed a heart transplant. He needed the transplant because his own heart was weak. But in order for a person to have a transplant, another person has to die. When the transplant takes place, that person has a new outlook on life.

In the verse noted above we read, “God gave him another heart.” This wasn’t a physical heart transplant, but a spiritual heart transplant. Saul had left home with one heart, met the Man of God and returned home with another heart.

We read in Jeremiah 17:9 – “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” God is speaking through Jeremiah about this heart within everyone before they are ‘Born Again.” And even after a person is “Born Again,” they can still choose to live and make decisions listening to the old worldly, fleshly heart. Many Christians need a heart transplant.

This kind of heart transplant takes place when you yield yourself wholly and completely to God by the Holy Spirit. To do this, you must be willing to be completely obedient to the Word of God. When you are completely obedient to the Word of God you will be enabled to walk in the Spirit so that you don’t fulfill the lusts of the flesh. When you obey the Word, and walk in the Spirit, you will be humbled in such a way that you are a vessel that God can use for His honor and glory.

When you do that, others will notice the change in you; 2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
