Both God and Man
Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
As Christmas approaches, we turn our attention to the One who came to deliver us from sin forever. Isaiah 9:6 tells us that He was born---speaking of His humanity---and that He was given---reminding us that He is deity.
In calling Jesus the Wonderful Counselor, Isaiah is reminding us that we can come to Him for the same kind of wisdom a loyal subject would seek from a ruling king.
When we enter into His courts, we recognize that we are the subjects of a Great Ruler who sees everything in His kingdom and knows how to best rule over it all. We can bring our questions and concerns to Him, and we can seek His divine and eternal guidance with confidence that He will direct us in the very best way.
When we seek the Lord’s royal wisdom and guidance, we participate with Him in changing our hearts and our emotions. When we consult with Him and allow Him to reign as our Wonderful Counselor, we gain an inside track to joyful and abundant living in Him.
