The Shield of Faith

Ephesians 6:16 - Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

If you watch some of the old movies about ancient battles you will notice the large shield soldiers carried. These shields were designed to be big enough for the soldier to hide behind. The shield was able to stop arrows or spears that were directed toward the fighters.

It is interesting to note that in Scripture when you put on the whole armor of God the notation before the shield is “above all” signifying the importance of faith. When faith is described as confidence in the Word of God, then you know that will deflect any arrows or spears the enemy, Satan, will throw at you. You can read in Matthew chapter 4 how the enemy will take the Word and twist it to promote his lies.

We learn as Christians how we should walk in 2 Corinthians 5:7 - (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

As Christians we learn how to please God in Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please him:

We are instructed how we should live in Galatians 2:20 - I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

When the enemy attacks, put up that shield of faith and stand in the power of God!
