God's Old Testament
Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. Deuteronmy 8:3
The Old Testament may not seem relevant to us today--but God has much to teach us through its pages.
After all, Jesus knew and often quoted the Old Testament. One reason the Old Testament is so important, He declared is because it points to His coming as the promised Messiah.
The detailed instructions that governed the Old Testament sacrificial system no longer strictly apply to us because they have been fulfilled in Christ's sacrifice of Himself on the cross. Yet they still have much to teach us about the holiness of God and the seriousness of sin.
The book of Psalms is the Bible's hymnbook. It shows you what it means to walk with God in prayer and praise. The prophets and historical sections show how God dealt with His people in times past---and how He wants to deal with us today. Remember: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16).
