God’s Success Story
Matthew 25:14-30
Matthew 25:29 - For unto everyone that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
A steward, of course, is a person who manages somebody else’s property and is supposed to show a profit. All of us are stewards. We own nothing of ourselves; we only possess that which God has given us by His grace. Our job is to use His wealth for His glory.
When you read the full account of the parable of the talents you see two of these men were successful, and they each received the same “bonus” from the master. What was their secret of success? They were faithful with what they had. The man with the two talents (a great amount of money) didn’t complain because the other man had more; he went ahead and used what he had – and he received the same reward!
God gives us the opportunities to match our abilities. Why did one man receive five talents? Because he had more ability, and even that was given to him by the Lord. Success is not having a great deal of ability. No, success is using every opportunity to apply our abilities faithfully. If we can do more work, win more souls, invest more time, and we fail to do it, we are failing in the sight of God.
Rewards are based on the proportion, not the portion. The five-talent man made a 100 percent gain, but so did the two-talent man! Had the third worker gained only one more talent, he would have received the very same bonus.
Instead of complaining about the few abilities or opportunities you may have, start using what you have faithfully – and see what God will do!
