Holy Spirit Within Us

When He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.  John 16:8

The Holy Spirit is God Himself, as He comes to live within us. But why has He come?

First, the Holy Spirit comes to convict us of our sin. He makes us admit to ourselves that we are sinners. We cannot come to Christ unless the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin. He also convinces us of the truth about Christ as the Savior.

In addition, the Holy Spirit gives us new life. When we give our lives to Jesus and trust Him as our Savior and Lord, the Spirit renews our souls and brings the life of God into us. We have joy and peace, and we have a new direction to our lives because the Spirit of God has imparted to us the very life of God.

The Bible also teaches that the Holy Spirit produces fruit in our lives. Our thoughts, words, actions, motives---all that we are and all that we do---begin to reflect the Spirit's fruit of "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance" (Galatians 5:22-23). This fruit comes as we yield ourselves to the Spirit.

How yielded is your life today?
