The Lord Alone

Isaiah 37:20 - Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.

Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar set up an image of gold and ordered that all people in the land bow down and worship it. However, three Hebrews, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, had been taught from birth to worship the Lord God alone – so they refused to comply. Nebuchadnezzar threatened to have them thrown into a fiery furnace, but they replied, “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the fiery furnace; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not…we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have setup” (Daniel 3:17-18}. What a great proclamation of faith!

This is the attitude the Lord desires of all who believe in Him. Because there will be times when the roar of evil will be so great that you’ll feel helpless to overcome it. But that is always the time to say, “My God is able to deliver me! But even if he doesn’t, I will stay faithful.” You continue to exalt the Lord as the only true God. That is the faith He honors, which will ultimately lead to your deliverance – just as it did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.
