The Day Is at Hand

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.  Romans 13:12

I once read about a sundial on which was inscribed the cryptic message, "It is later than you think." Travelers would often pause to meditate on the meaning of that phrase. Its author undoubtedlly wanted to remind others of the shortness and uncertainty of life.

We Christians have a sundial--the Word of God. From Genesis to Revelation it bears its warning: "It is later than you think." Writing to the Christians of his day, Paul said, "And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light" (Romans 13:11-12).

Learn to live each day as if it were your last. Someday, it will be.
