Prince of Peace

Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Royal titles mean very little to Americans, but in some parts of the world they signify the privilege of birthright. By virtue of their parents and ancestors, royal people assume positions of power. It may be largely symbolic, but traditionally, royalty sets the rules.

Isaiah characterized the coming Messiah as Prince of Peace because of His birthright. As the Father’s Son, Jesus had the right to reign over the earth. While many nations have been burdened with tyrannical rule imposed by royalty, that’s not the case in God’s Kingdom.

Jesus’ birth and subsequent sacrificial death made it possible for us to have eternal life and to have peace with God. Because we put our trust in Him, we have peace now. In the future He will establish a lasting peace.

This Christmas, celebrate the birth of our Savior and enjoy the rich blessing from the Prince of Peace.

He brought peace on earth and wants to bring it also into your soul---that peace which the world cannot give. He is the One who would save His people from their sin.
